Gods Love Sponge

I tell you, her sins-and they are many-have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love." Luke 7:47

I learned a very valuable lesson about forgiveness many years ago while attending Jimmy Swaggart bible school in Baton Rouge Louisiana.

O yes!  I was there in the late 80s when Jimmy was caught red handed in some very lewd activity.

I still remember that Sunday morning when Jimmy got up in front of thousands including the national media, and with tears streaming down his face asked for forgiveness.

While Jimmy was confessing I remembered looking around and to my surprise many in the church had a very hostile look of anger and resentment, but the only thing that came to my mind was " but for the grace of God there go I"

Even today after almost 30 years many Christians still have not forgotten or forgiven Jimmy for his downfall .

This indeed shows a very self righteous spirit that is off the charts.

This also reveals that much of the church today  has not believed the right gospel.

One of the biggest reasons for so much self righteousness in the church today is due to the fact that many still do not understand just how much God has forgiven them!

Many still do not get grace or the truth that righteousness is a gift to be received and can never be achieved and that all, not just some, but all their sins have already been forgiven through the body and blood of Jesus.

To the degree that you understand  and receive Gods forgiveness , will be the degree that you will then be able to extend forgiveness toward others.

Its the same with Love. To the degree that we understand and receive the Love that God has for us will be the degree that we will then be able to pour out His Love to others.

In other words ..
God wants us to be Love Sponges. Forgiveness Sponges. Goodness Sponges!

God wants us to so absorb His Love, Goodness and Forgiveness that we are soaked with all that He is!
Dripping wet with His Love, Forgiveness and Goodness..

There’s an interesting verse in 2 Peter 1:9

For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that
he was cleansed from his old sins.

Those who lack what things?
Love, Kindness, Goodness, Patience , Self Control ect..

Peter was saying if we lack the Fruit of the Spirit it’s because we have forgotten how loved we are! How forgiven we are!

In order for us to give out we must become good absorbers!
