Baptized into Christ.

The other day someone received Christ at our Coffeehouse!

They wanted to be baptized so one of our employees said.. “Theres no time like the present! “( almost sounds like the book of acts to me!)

Our employee led the young man down to the ocean and immediately baptized him, as the young man came out of the water he said the water was freezing cold, but it felt like  warm blanket fresh out of the dryer was suddenly wrapped around him!

He also said as he was coming up out of the water he came into a great bright light.

This morning as I was  reading a passage from the message translation and it sounds very similar to this young man’s testimony

That's what baptism into the life of Jesus means.

When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus.

Each of us is raised into a light-filled world by our Father so that we can see where we're going in our new grace-sovereign country. Romans 6:3-5

Water baptism is really an external expression of  internal transformation.

Water baptism is all about a death, burial and resurrection.

When christ died we (that is our old nature died with him) the same nails that pierced Jesus also pierced our old man that was passed down to us from Adam.

When Christ was buried we were buried, But when Christ rose from the dead we also rose with him as a new creation in Christ to now walk in a newness of life in perfect union with him.

Our new reality is confirmed in the scripture.

Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. Romans 6:6- 7

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20
