Law giving or Grace giving

Have you ever seen  a preacher stand up in front of the congregation and say “stop giving! Your giving way too much !”

I know one who did ; His name was Moses.

Moses had to actually restrain Gods people from
Giving because they were giving way too much!

You could say they became addicted to giving..

and they spoke to Moses, saying, "The people bring much more than enough for the service of the work which the LORD commanded us to do."
Exodus 36:5

So Moses gave a commandment, and they caused it to be proclaimed throughout the camp, saying, "Let neither man nor woman do any more work for the offering of the sanctuary."

And the people were restrained from bringing,

for the material they had was sufficient for all the work to be done-indeed too much. Exodus 36:6-7

What caused Gods people to become so excited about giving?

Was it because they were commanded to give ? Were they told to give God what belongs to Him or they would be cursed?

No, in fact there was no command to give at all. They were not actually told to give, but they were asked to give a free will offering from their heart.

In fact the only thing that God could use in the building of the tabernacle were those gifts that were offered as a free will offering.

And Moses spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, "This is the thing which the LORD commanded, saying:

Take from among you an offering to the LORD. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the LORD: gold, silver, and bronze;

Then everyone came whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and they brought the LORD's offering for the work of the tabernacle of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments. Exodus 35:

A free will offering is “not give or else suffer the consequences offering.

A free will offering is an offering that you desire to give, that your moved to give, not something that your forced to give or feel pressured to give.

We need to understand that God is our Father; He is not the God-Father. He’s not saying “ I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse if you don’t give!”

Our offering shouldn’t be seen as protection money; giving should be a pleasure, not a pressure!

But something phenomenal begins to happen when Gods people are free to give from the heart.

They actually begin to experience the joy of giving.

I personally believe that church’s who preach free will offering over law giving or giving as something you must pay for protection; in other words pay up or suffer the consequences ! will actually not see a decrease in giving, but an increase in giving.

So is it law giving or free will giving?

Let’s look at scripture.

Remember this-a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. "For God loves a person who gives cheerfully."

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8

You decide ..
