The mount of transfiguration
Why did Jesus take Peter, James and John with Him to the Mt. of transfiguration?
Well, we are not completely sure why Jesus picked these three, but it Is interesting to know that Johns name means Grace , James name means Replace and Peters name means Stone.
So you could say that the Mt of transfiguration was a picture, showing us that Grace was getting ready to replace Stone or the Law.
Remember Moses and Elijah who represented the Law and the Prophets also showed up on the mount that day with Jesus.
Of course Peter wanted to immediately build tabernacles for all three !
Jesus, Moses and Elijah.
In other words Peter wanted to mix all three of these guys together!
But Gods plan was not to mix the law and Grace together..
Under the new covenant we are to be dead to the law and married to Christ. Rom 7:4
We also remember what happened next.
God actually interrupted Peter while he was talking.
While he (Peter) was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!"
God is telling us to keep our eyes fixed on Christ and to hear Him!
The way of the new covenant is Jesus plus nothing else!
Today we are no longer under the law but grace. Rom 6:14
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:17
Jesus + anything = nothing
Jesus + nothing = everything
