Who is God ?

If our view of God does not line up with Jesus then we have a wrong view of God.

Jesus came to reveal the true character and nature of God the Father.

Listen to what Jesus said to Phillip. John 14:8

Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.”

Jesus replied, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am?

Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father!

So why are you asking me to show him to you?  Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?

The words I speak are not my own, but my Father who lives in me does his work through me.

Just believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. Or at least believe because of the work you have seen me do.

Today, we must always look to Christ, if we are to have a correct view of God or our view of God will be distorted.

Instead of seeing God through the old covenant, We need to see God through Jesus…. Andrew Womack

Hebrews one tells us how God speaks to us today and it tells us that Jesus was the exact expression of the true character and nature of the Father.

Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets.  And now in these final days, he has spoken to us in  his Son.

The main way that God speaks to us today, is in His Son, everything that we receive today must be filtered through Christ , through His finished work  and through our new position IN Christ .

I am convinced that a lot of our mixed up theology is a direct result of our  listening to and receiving messages taken from the law and the prophets of old, more then from hearing and seeing how God has already spoken to us through Christ and in Christ.

Im reminded of what happened on the  Mt. of Transfiguration?

Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus and after Peter saw them he eagerly wanted to build three tabernacles for all three, when all of a sudden the voice of the Father spoke out  of a cloud and said…

“This is My beloved Son, Hear Him!”  When the voice had ceased, Jesus was found alone. Luke 9:35

The Father was telling Peter that it was a new day! At one time He did speak though the law and the prophets, but today He is speaking through His Son.

Everything we believe today must line up with Christ, who Christ is, the mission of Christ, what Christ has already finished and who we now are In Christ.

We really do have something far better then anyone ever possessed before the cross. In the old covenant God was with them, but under the new covenant God is now in us and we are IN Christ.

Hebrews 1:3 again tells us that the Son is the expressed true nature of God the Father

The Son radiates God's own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. Hebrews 1:3

If you've ever wondered who God is, what God is really like and what Gods real intention is toward you, then look to Jesus.

Jesus the expression of the true nature and character of God the Father.

We have often had a very distorted picture of God. We have often seen God the Father as the one full of anger and wrath and Jesus the Son standing between us and the Father to in essence protect us from the Fathers anger and wrath.

Its like Jesus is constantly trying to hold the Father back from slapping the tar out of us!

But this is a completely wrong picture of the Father. This is one reason God the Father sent Jesus, so that through Jesus our distorted image of Him could be straightened out!

God is Love and the Father is a Good, Good Father and His desire has always been to love us and to restore us back into His Love.

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,[so that we could be made right with God through Christ.  2 Corinthians 5:19-21

So why does it say that Jesus is the mediator between God and man? Is Jesus doing His best to keep God from slapping us? No! Thats not what a mediator is. A mediator is one who has closed  the gap, one who has been use to bring two that were separate back together again.

It was through the body of Christ and the one time sacrifice of Christ that we have now been brought into complete union with God. There is now no separation between ourselves and God. We have been restored.

Well ,what happens if we sin? The scripture tells us that Jesus is a continual eternal reminder that all sin for all time and for the entire world has already been paid for. He is our advocate and the propitiation for all sin.

This is not saying that every time someone sins, that Jesus is pleading with the Father to not scourge them or worse kill them! No! Thats a wrong picture. Jesus very presence next to the Father is evidence that all sin has already been paid for.
